Measuring Process Safety Performance

Introduction

This program has been developed to provide an introduction to some key process safety concepts in learning from incidents and monitoring performance. This workshop will include the innovative IChemE Safety Centre case studies, helping participants to learn from incidents without being distracted by hindsight bias.

 

Objectives

This interactive two-day workshop will introduce you to the principles of process safety and how to apply them day to day. It will focus on metrics and learning from incidents to improve your process safety outcomes, looking at establishing metrics as well as auditing to review performance. It will include use of the leading IChemE Safety

Centre case studies as well as other resources available to learn from incidents. It will answer some of the following questions.

  • How do you get lessons learned from accidents – case studies, tell the story.
  • How do you investigate incidents and analyse the reports for learnings.
  • How do you measure your performance and understand which metrics are useful.
  • How do you monitor near misses and extract learnings?

 

Course Contents

  • Tracking and learning from near misses.
  • Understanding lessons learned and how to tell the story.
  • Incident investigation and analysis.
  • Process safety metrics, lead and lag.

 

Course Methodology

The learning methodology includes a combination of presentation, discussion, case studies, video content and interactive exercises to transform participant knowledge into hands-on practice in a safe environment.

 

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, candidates will be awarded Measuring Process Safety Performance certificate from ASSP.
